Gorham Community Television attended the 11th Annual Fall Video Conference for the Alliance of Community Media  (Northeast Region) on November 15th, and we won 3 awards!  Jamie Kennedy, now attending film school, won 1st place for her work on Retinal Art Delights, Georgia (station manager) won 1st Place for her PSA on Adult Education, and Ivonne Vazquez won 3rd place for producing a show on “Winterization”- helping people prepare for the winter.  They were all in different categories which I don’t have in front of me, but I plan on posting more about it soon.  We have some pictures to share!  Congratulations Jamie, Georgia and Ivonne!

Just when you think everything should be a go, something will Murphy you. Last night was a perfect example. We are in this great new facility with tons of state of the art equipment. Municipal meetings are suppose to be turnkey situations. My Labrador should be able to run one. I fire up the whole affair last night at 6:15 for a 7pm meeting and I am not getting signal flow to air. You always freak when something is off. The adrenaline starts to flow, you break out in a sweat and you have the impulse to just start pulling cables out in every direction. You have to remember to breathe and use the KISS system of trouble shooting. It didn’t take me long to discover that the new pro end video switcher wasn’t getting any power and so would not pass any signal. Further investigation led me to the 50-cent connector on the power supply that broke off when I touched it. I couldn’t find a sub so I end up re-wiring to an old switcher but had no previews to set the shots. All night I am tweaking on air to frame the shots. It wasn’t pretty. Later in the evening one of the councilors pulled their microphone right out of its mount. Mmmm I guess that could make some hum. Last night I was my own tech department and the show went on even if some of the councilors had the tops of their heads cut off. Mmmmm interesting image.  What’s next?
