About

“To be a communication resource for

use by the community and it’s citizens.”

Gorham Community Access Television (GOCAT) is similar to many other community based stations around the country. Historical background about the  access television movement is grounded in early (1970′s) technology requirements for producing television content. It was far to expensive for the average person to purchase a camera and produce their own shows. Centers were established for people to borrow the gear they needed. Now everything has changed in regards to accessibility of gear and the platforms that are available to express opinion. What hasn’t changed is the need for access to the many voices of the people. What hasn’t changed is the “machine”,the “man”, the “big corporations”, from trying to stifle that expression. I remind myself that local is important. Local is the start. Let’s go start something !

For those of you who may have stumbled on GOCAT’s blog accidentally or less so…find out more. This is an incredible resource in our community paid for by the cable franchise fees (that little line item you probably thought did’nt have a purpose).

Gorham has one of the most wonderfully intelligent and artistically diverse populations in this area and what better way to showcase what we have than by producing community television for and by Gorhamites!
